Delta Anchors
Choosing a Delta anchor
A Delta anchor is suitable for sand, mud, soft and hard clay, and gravel. The anchor has a fixed shape and cannot be folded. Before ordering, check that its dimensions fit your bow roller or anchor locker.
The table below provides guidance on choosing an anchor weight. It distinguishes between extended or overnight anchoring and temporary anchoring in sheltered waters in fair weather, while you remain on board.
| Anchor weight | Max. boat length extended / overnight anchoring | Max. boat length temporary sheltered anchoring |
|---|---|---|
| 4 kg | 5.5 m | 7 m |
| 5 kg | 6.5 m | 8 m |
| 6 kg | 7 m | 9 m |
| 7.5 kg | 8 m | 10 m |
| 10 kg | 10 m | 12 m |
| 16 kg | 12.5 m | 15 m |
The boat lengths shown are a guide only. Your boat's weight and windage, the anchor rope or chain you use, and the conditions also affect your choice. If your boat is relatively heavy or has high windage, you may need a heavier anchor than the table suggests based on boat length alone.
Anchor rope and chain
A chain leader or anchor chain, or a leaded anchor rope, can help the anchor hold more effectively. The extra weight helps keep the pull on the anchor closer to the seabed, allowing it to dig in more effectively.
